How To Take Care For Air Plants | Tillandsia Ionatha
Tillandsia Ionantha

What are Air Plants / Tillandsia?

Tillandsia / Air plants are the largest genus in the Bromeliaceae family. Most Tillandsia species absorb moisture and nutrients through their leaves, and attach themselves onto trees and rocks using their roots.

How to care for Air Plants?

  1. Air plants should receive bright, indirect sunlight. Place them near a sunny south, east or west-facing window but never direct intense sunlight.
  2. Locate them in a well-ventilated area with fresh moving Air. Tillandsia are like humans in the sense that they survive best in temperatures that you feel comfortable in.
  3. Though they are ‘Air’ Plants, they will still need regular watering. To water your Tillandsia, soak them in a bowl of water for 10-15 minutes. After soaking, shake off excess water as standing water will hurt them. When dried put them back in your Växa planter. Water them once a week
  4. For optimal care, mist your Tillandsia with diluted organic fertilizer once a month

 Healthy or not healthy?

When Tillandsia are healthy, their colors will be the most vibrant. If you tug lightly on the bottom leaves and they fall off easily, that means the air plant has enough water. If the leaves start to brown or feel dry, they need more water!

EXPERT AIR PLANT CARE TIP: To remind yourself to water your air plants, set an alarm or reminder in your phone that goes off once a week when you are most likely to be home.
